Romantic Spring Proposal Photos in Yosemite | Ben & Jessica

Spring in Yosemite creates some of the best conditions for proposal photos! The waterfalls are flowing heavily, the park feels fresh after winter, and the changing weather adds so much to the landscape. Ben and Jessica’s Yosemite proposal photos captured all of that perfectly!

Instead of focusing only on the most recognizable Yosemite viewpoints, Ben wanted their proposal photos to include locations that felt a little more unique. As their Yosemite photographer, I helped build the day around a mix of iconic scenery and quieter spots throughout the park. These are the kinds of sessions I love helping couples plan because they feel less like a photoshoot and more like an experience together. Have a look!

How Ben and Jessica Met

Ben and Jessica originally met on Hinge and immediately connected over conversation, food, and adventure. Their first date started at a winery where they ordered wine flights and spent hours talking about life and future plans together. At one point, they laughed about one of the wines tasting exactly like mushrooms.

After the winery, they ended up at a small Italian café sharing tiramisu and espresso late into the evening. Jessica later admitted that sharing food or drinks is normally something she never likes doing, which somehow made the memory even sweeter. They recently recreated that exact same date together, which is so sweet!

When describing what they love most about each other, they talked about being playful together and how every part of life feels like a new experience they get to share side by side. That energy totally showed up naturally throughout their entire proposal session!

Starting Their Yosemite Proposal Photos Near Tunnel View

We started the morning near Tunnel View at sunrise. It was a little chilly when we first got out there, but spring mornings in Yosemite always feel quiet and calm before the park gets busy. The weather ended up being incredible, with soft clouds hanging around the valley all morning. Rather than staying directly at the main overlook, we explored a quieter nearby area that gave us unique views.

Ben and Jessica settled into the session quickly because they focused more on each other than the camera. They spent most of the morning walking together, joking around, and taking in the views.

A Thoughtful Surprise for Jessica

One of my favorite parts of the day was how much thought Ben put into the details outside of the proposal itself! He secretly packed multiple outfits for Jessica and hid them in the car before the session started. The dresses weren’t random either. Jessica had seen them while they were shopping together previously and loved them, so Ben went back later and bought them for her without saying anything. She was completely surprised when he pulled them out during the session! I love how intentionally he planned it all, even down to her shoes.

Exploring Yosemite Beyond the Typical Instagram Spots

After sunrise, we explored several quieter areas throughout Yosemite including one of my favorite river locations and a beautiful spot near Wawona.

One thing I appreciated about Ben and Jessica was how open they were to slowing down and simply enjoying wherever we were instead of rushing between locations. Yosemite has so many incredible places beyond the viewpoints people constantly see online, and building in time to explore those quieter areas was such a treat for all of us.

Ending the Session at Chilnualna Falls

We finished the session near Chilnualna Falls in the Wawona area. This part of Yosemite feels completely different from Yosemite Valley. The trails wind through tall trees and granite landscapes, and the waterfall was especially beautiful with the spring runoff.

The area felt peaceful and removed from the busier parts of the park, which made it the perfect place to end the day.

By this point, Ben and Jessica had fully settled into the experience together. They spent the final part of the session laughing, wandering through the trails, and completely forgetting about the camera being there! Some of my favorite images from the day happened during those quieter in-between moments.
