Planning an elopement doesn’t always take a year or more! Jessica and Zack planned their last-minute Yosemite elopement in just six weeks. Even with just six weeks to plan their Yosemite elopement, every part of the day felt intentional. The final story came together so beautifully that it was recently featured on Adventure Wed. As a Yosemite elopement photographer, I love helping couples turn ideas into a well-thought-out day, whether they’ve been planning for months or only have a few weeks to pull everything together.
They traveled from Indianapolis, Indiana with two of their closest friends and their friends’ four-month-old baby, keeping the celebration small and focused on what mattered most. Their vision was simple: get married in nature, spend the day together, and come home with photos that would help them share the news with family and friends!
Planning a Yosemite Elopement in Just Six Weeks
Many couples assume planning a Yosemite National Park elopement has to happen a ways in advance, but that’s not always the case. Jessica and Zack reached out about six weeks before their wedding day. From there, we worked together to build a timeline that fit everything they wanted without making the day feel rushed. We chose locations that showcased several different sides of Yosemite while keeping driving and hiking realistic for a six-hour coverage window.
Sometimes shorter planning timelines actually help simplify decisions. Instead of getting caught up in endless options, they focused on what was most important to them, which was incredible scenery, a relaxed experience, and celebrating with their closest people.
A First Look at Tunnel View
Their afternoon began with a first look at Tunnel View. This is one of my favorite places to start an elopement because it gives couples a chance to settle into the day before visiting other locations throughout the park. The excitement of finally seeing each other mixed with Yosemite’s iconic backdrop made for such a fun beginning to their adventure. After spending some time together overlooking the valley, we headed down into Yosemite Valley to continue exploring.
Exploring Yosemite Valley Before the Ceremony
One of the advantages of an afternoon timeline is getting to experience several different landscapes before your ceremony. We wandered through Yosemite Valley, stopping wherever the scenery caught our attention. Instead of feeling like every stop needed to be perfectly planned, the afternoon unfolded naturally as we explored together. Those quieter moments between locations often become some of my favorite photos because couples have time to relax and simply enjoy being together.
Private Vows at Taft Point
As the afternoon turned into evening, we made our way to Taft Point. The short hike was a perfect way to break up the afternoon a bit. Once we reached the overlook, Jessica and Zack exchanged private vows surrounded by sweeping views of Yosemite Valley.
They chose to keep the ceremony intimate, with only their two close friends there to witness the moment. It felt so peaceful and personal. It was exactly how they had envisioned getting married. After saying “I do,” they celebrated with a champagne pop before sharing their first dance overlooking the cliffs. Watching the sun get lower while they danced together was so special!
Ending the Day at Glacier Point
Rather than ending at Taft Point, we squeezed in one final stop. We drove to Glacier Point just in time for the last light of the evening. The soft sunset colors stretching across Half Dome and Yosemite Valley made the perfect ending to an already incredible day. It also showed how much variety you can experience in a relatively short amount of time with a thoughtfully planned timeline.
