If you’ve ever wondered what a full-day Yosemite hiking elopement actually looks like, this day is the perfect example. Claudia and Kelly built their elopement day with intention and spent the day fully present together.
As a Yosemite elopement photographer, these are the kinds of days I enjoy most. I love when couples lean into adventure and build a day that reflects what matters most to them.
Their elopement took place in late January, which meant a slower winter pace, fewer crowds, and a quieter version of Yosemite. From a sunrise first look to a full afternoon hiking Upper Yosemite Falls, their elopement day shows how to create something meaningful, relaxed, and still physically adventurous.

A Sunrise Start to Their Yosemite Hiking Elopement
We started early, just before sunrise at Tunnel View. It was a little chilly, quiet, and still.
Claudia and Kelly got ready together and kept things simple and relaxed. When we arrived, Claudia changed into her dress in the car before walking up to Kelly for their first look. The valley was just starting to light up, and the entire moment felt calm and intentional.
There’s something about starting your day at sunrise that sets the tone. It gives you space to breathe before anything else begins, and that quiet energy will carry through the rest of your elopement, too.

A Meaningful Ceremony During Their Yosemite Hiking Elopement
After sunrise, we made our way toward Bridalveil Fall for their ceremony. The waterfall was flowing steadily, and the mist in the air added to the atmosphere without being overwhelming.
Their friend Hannah officiated their ceremony. During it, Claudia and Kelly exchanged handwritten vows, signed their marriage license right after, and celebrated with their two closest friends.
One of my favorite parts of the morning happened right after the ceremony. Claudia and Kelly had choreographed their first dance and shared it together near the falls. It added such a fun and personal touch to the day. It felt lighthearted and so them.

Slowing Down Before the Adventure
Before heading into the most physically demanding part of the day, they built in time to pause.
We stopped for coffee and lunch at Base Camp. This gave them time to warm up, eat, and just sit together with their friends.
I always recommend a break like this for a full-day Yosemite hiking elopement. When you’re planning a day that includes movement and long stretches outdoors, breaks like this make a huge difference. They help you stay present and enjoy each part of the experience.

Hiking Upper Yosemite Falls During Their Yosemite Hiking Elopement
In the early afternoon, we started the hike up Upper Yosemite Falls. This is a strenuous trail with significant elevation gain, and it was such a special part of their elopement.
They came prepared with microspikes, extra socks, layers, and snacks. Kelly even packed a separate bag just for his jacket. They carried their wedding attire in backpacks and changed along the way, which made everything feel practical without taking away from the experience.
Winter conditions actually worked in their favor. The cooler temperatures made the climb more manageable, and the trail was quieter than it would be during peak season.
By the time we reached higher viewpoints, the light had started to shift. The valley stretched out below them, and everything felt quiet again. I loved documenting them as they took it all in!

Ending Their Elopement with Cake and Champagne
After hiking back down, we ended the day near Lower Yosemite Falls with a little cake and champagne celebration.
They brought a small cake and desserts from Whole Foods, along with the champagne. We found picnic benches, and they cut the cake, poured drinks, and relaxed after a long and full day.
It wasn’t elaborate, but it didn’t need to be. It felt easy and genuine, which matched the entire tone of their elopement.

What a Full-Day Yosemite Hiking Elopement Feels Like
A day like this is definitely not about packing in as much as possible! It’s more so about creating a flow that feels natural for you as a couple.
Claudia and Kelly’s timeline worked so well because every part of it was perfectly thought out. We started at sunrise with quiet, personal moments, then moved into a ceremony with their closest people. After that, there was space to eat, slow down, and reset before heading into a long hike that felt like something they could fully enjoy rather than push through. We wrapped everything up with a simple celebration at the end of the day. It all felt steady, unrushed, and easy to be present in.
A full-day Yosemite hiking elopement gives you the space to include all of those elements. You can have adventure, rest, celebration, and still be present through all of it.
Why a Winter Yosemite Hiking Elopement Feels Different
Winter in Yosemite brings a completely different energy. Read my seasonal guide to eloping in Yosemite to learn more about what makes winter in Yosemite unique.
In short, winter leads to fewer people, which makes even popular locations feel more personal. The light is softer throughout the day, and the cooler temperatures make longer hikes more manageable.
It also requires a bit more preparation. Layers, proper footwear, and flexibility all matter. But when you plan for those things, winter becomes one of the most rewarding times to elope.
For Claudia and Kelly, it was perfect. It felt aligned with who they are and how they wanted to spend their wedding day.
