Should You Invest in a Post-Elopement Session?

You did it! You eloped. The vows, the happy tears, the adventure and it’s everything you dreamed of. But here’s the thing: your story doesn’t have to stop there! One of my favorite things to encourage couples to consider is a post-elopement session. Whether it’s the next day, a few days later, or even during an extended trip, adding a post-elopement session can completely elevate your experience!

What’s a Post-Elopement Session? Is it Worth It?

It’s exactly what it sounds like! It is a chance to take more photos after your elopement day. This could be the next morning at sunrise, or maybe a few days later when you’ve had a chance to explore, relax, and let it all soak in. The vibe is totally relaxed, intentional, and all about you two without the pressure of a timeline or guest list.

On elopement day, there’s usually a loose structure. Maybe you’ve got family tagging along for a bit. Maybe you’re squeezing in a few key spots before sunset. And sometimes, even with the most flexible timeline, you just don’t get to hit all the places you dreamed of. A post-elopement session gives you room to slow down, explore deeper, and get creative! There’s something special about the after. You’ve already said your vows. The big emotions have landed. Now you get to show up in your wedding clothes (or a second outfit!) and just enjoy it!

What to do During your Post-Elopement Session

The day after your elopement is the perfect time to catch a dreamy sunrise or sunset light, without the rush of a packed schedule. You can take your time hiking to that perfect overlook, biking around Yosemite Valley, or wading into the Merced River just because you want to!

If you’re already traveling somewhere like Yosemite, Sequoia, or Mammoth, why not make the most of it? A post-elopement session lets you stretch the adventure. You can visit a different trail, catch the park at a new time of day, or just fully soak in the beauty around you.

Here are some ideas!

  • Riding bikes through Yosemite Valley in your wedding attire.
  • Jumping into the Merced River in the middle of summer.
  • Dancing barefoot on the edge of Taft Point at sunrise.
  • Going on a light, scenic hike with coffee and pastries in hand.
  • Stargazing with a cozy blanket and headlamps for some night portraits.

And as your elopement photographer, I’m here to help you plan it all! Whether it’s an early morning hike, a sunset picnic, or a splash in the river!
