If you’ve ever pictured yourself wandering through massive trees, granite overlooks, and quiet trails, this Sequoia National Park session will give you all the inspiration you need. These two planned a proposal and engagement session that felt fun and adventurous. It rained almost the entire morning, but the day turned into something even better than any of us expected. Sequoia has a habit of doing that. The forest always feels a little magical, but this day took it to another level.

Their Sequoia National Park Proposal
We started at Beetle Rock. It’s simple and open with views that stretch forever, and it gave them the perfect spot for the proposal. The skies were gray and the rain showed up early, but everyone agreed to keep going. The trail was wet, the clouds were low, and everything smelled like fresh rain. It created this peaceful, cozy feeling that made the moment even more special.
Right as Marcus got down on one knee, the clouds shifted. We realized we were standing above the storm. The entire valley was covered in white, and the overlook sat right on top of the cloud line. It was surreal. Marcus at Atlanta took a few minutes together after the proposal just soaking it in. They soaked in the feeling of being tucked into their own little pocket of the park. The weather turned into the best part of the day.

Engagement Photos on the Congress Trail
After Beetle Rock, we made our way to the Congress Trail for their engagement photos. This trail is a real hike. It weaves through some of the biggest and most impressive trees in the park, and the scale of everything is hard to describe until you’re standing there in person. The rain eased up as we walked, and the forest looked soft and misty. The light filtered through the branches and created these beautiful little pockets of glow.
We took our time on the trail. We were just slowly walking, stopping whenever the scenery shifted, and finding spots where the forest opened up in front of us. The combination of the weather, the trees, and the quiet made everything feel relaxed and natural. Some of my favorite photos from the day happened in the moments when Marcus and Atlanta forgot I was there with my camera.
By the time we finished the hike, the clouds had lifted even more. The tops of the sequoias were glowing. The whole trail felt completely different than it did at the beginning of the day. That’s what I love about Sequoia. The park changes every few minutes, and you never know what you’ll get.

Client Love after this Sequoia National Park Proposal
“Alyssa was incredible! She took our engagement photos in the Sequoias and made the entire experience feel natural and comfortable. She guided us to the most beautiful spots and somehow captured both the scenery and our relationship perfectly. We’re genuinely blown away by the photos and so grateful we chose her!”

A Quick Tip for Anyone Planning a Session in Sequoia
If you’re heading into Sequoia for a proposal, engagement session, or elopement, download offline maps before you go. There’s zero service in most parts of the park. Trails can look similar, and the forest can get confusing during low visibility. Having offline maps saved makes everything easier and helps you stay present throughout the day.
